Fearless Wallet Team Restructuring

Fearless Wallet is arguably the best wallet in the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystem, featuring amazing UI/UX, native-app responsiveness, and uncompromising security. Recently it has seen significant user growth and connections with exciting projects like Moonriver, Karura, and many others!

Unfortunately SORAMITSU employee, Anton Khvorov, the leader of the Fearless Wallet development team, saw a market opportunity and wanted all the future grants and monetary compensation, so he decided to leave along with five other devs. They have stated an intent to fork Fearless Wallet and make their own app under a new name. While it may be technically legal, as Fearless Wallet is released under the Apache 2 software license, we consider this behaviour unethical for a former team lead.

A smooth transition with Anton was attempted for several weeks, which would give some equity from the new company he plans to create to SORAMITSU, in exchange for the app. He was supposed to give an answer last Monday but instead, resigned from SORAMITSU that day, with two of his team members. His offers were asking to basically give him everything he wants, or no deal. So in the end, there was no deal.

Apps like Fearless Wallet, SORA, and Polkaswap, use permissive software licenses because it gives humanity freedom to build on the ideas, and it can contribute significantly to the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystems. Forking a complete app and rebranding it doesn’t really give much to the ecosystem, which is why we consider it to be unethical, and that type of conduct is generally frowned upon in the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystems.

The good news is that the Fearless Wallet team has been restructured and promised features will be developed as planned by a new team that was set in place (with the members from the previous team who are still with us), and are working from last week. There may be slight delays, but there will always be the same quality and awesome work that you have come to expect from Fearless Wallet! In addition to other parachains being integrated, Polkaswap integration will in particular be spectacular (as was always planned in the Fearless Wallet roadmap).

Fearless Wallet has always aimed to be the best app in the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystems, putting the good of the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystems first and thrilling the users with a high quality and smooth DeFi experience.
